Ariadna Rojas Corzo (Ari)

Thank you for visiting my website to learn more about me !

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. I joined the Fisheries Ecology and Conservation Lab at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in August of 2020. Under the supervision of Dr. Matthew Ajemian, my PhD research focused on multiple aspects of the conservation of the globally endangered whitespotted eagle ray (Aetobatus narinari) in Florida. These include the discovery of nursery areas, understanding the uptake of phycotoxins associated with harmful algal blooms by this species, as well as human-wildlife conflicts involving eagle rays and other sharks and rays, particularly in shellfish aquaculture. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, I am the recipient of the William R. and Lenore Mote Early Career in Marine Sciences Fellowship from Mote Marine Laboratory. My postdoctoral work focuses on characterizing the space use and movement patterns of gravid whitespotted eagle rays to complete the nursery habitat designation for this species in Florida.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Conservation and ecology of cartilaginous fishes with a focus on threatened species.

  1. Habitat use and movements of sharks and rays using acoustic telemetry techniques; nursery habitats.

  2. Human and wildlife conflicts.

  3. Life history characteristics; health and effect of biotoxins.
